  • Watch the Mandatory Transition of Halal Products. What About Your Products?

Various regulations related to Halal Product Assurance (JPH) have been made. One of the articles in Act Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH), Article 4 states that products that enter, circulate, and trade in Indonesian territory must be certified halal, except for prohibited products.

In this regard, the Government has established mandatory halal products since October 17, 2019. However, considering that many things still need to be prepared, the Government provides a transition period or mandatory halal preparation period according to the type of product.

Based on the applicable regulations, the Director of Halal Audit Services for the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs, and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM MUI), Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si, explained that there are five distributions of the mandatory transition period for halal products based on product categories, including:

1. Food and Beverage: 17/10/2019 – 17/10/2024

2. Traditional Medicines (Jamu) and Supplements: 17/10/2021 – 17/10/2026

3. OTC Drugs and Limited OTC Drugs: 17/10/2021 – 17/10/2029

4. Strong Drugs, Except Psychotropics: 17/10/2021 – 17/10/2034

5. Cosmetics, Chemical Products and Genetically Engineered Products:17/10/2021 – 17/10/2026

In addition, entrepreneurs also need to understand the newest steps of halal certification. First of all, companies need to register first with the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) to obtain a Document Receipt Letter (STTD) which will later be needed for halal certification registration to LPH LPPOM MUI. Information related to obtaining STTD can be found at the link http://bit.ly/caramendapatkanSTTD.

Then, the registration of halal certification to the Halal Inspection Body (LPH) of LPPOM MUI can be carried out in parallel with registration to BPJPH. Registration to LPPOM MUI is online using the CEROL-SS23000 application through the website www.e-lppommui.org.

“LPH is still carrying out audits; LPPOM MUI is one of them. Meanwhile, the audit decision is still determined by the MUI Fatwa Commission and is stated in the form of a Halal Decree, in which it is the basis for the issuance of a Halal Certificate,” explained Muslich.

Last but not least, Muslich also emphasized that now a halal certificate is issued by BPJPH, which is valid for four years. Act Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH) Article 42, Act Number 11 of 2020 concerning Omnibus Law, and Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 concerning Implementation of JPH stated this validity.
