Halal certification for Micro and Small Enterprises (UMK) is in the spotlight of many parties. The number of MSEs that dominate business actors in Indonesia is one of the driving factors for Indonesia’s economic conditions.
Considering the reason, the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs, and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM MUI) as the Halal Inspection Body (LPH) creates various programs to facilitate MSEs in processing halal certification.
LPPOM MUI is the first Halal Inspection Body (LPH) established by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH). Also, has been accredited SNI ISO / IEC 17065: 2012 from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN). LPPOM MUI has been recognized by an overseas halal certification body too, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) on UAE standard 2055: 2-2016.
Previously, LPH LPPOM MUI held LPPOM MUI 1442 H Syawal Festival; this event successfully facilitated 644 MSEs from all provinces in Indonesia. In addition, LPH LPPOM MUI also provides various other services to facilitate halal certification for MSEs.

“LPPOM MUI provides services to distribute all documents needed by MSEs from the first step of registration until obtaining a halal certificate. LPPOM MUI also uses CEROL-SS23000 in carrying out the audit process. That is facilitation for MSEs actors in monitoring the halal certification process flexibly,” explained the Director of Halal Audit Services at LPPOM MUI, Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si.
In detail, Muslich also explained that LPPOM MUI has an acceleration program for halal certification. Since entering the CEROL-SS23000 completely, the halal certification process has been targeted to be completed within two weeks. One month until the MUI Fatwa Commission and the MUI Halal Decree are issued.
In this acceleration program, LPPOM MUI will communicate with companies to process audit preparation faster. The majority of the obstacles for MSEs actors are the use of materials with insufficient documents.
“As an example, products use meat that has not been certified halal. LPPOM MUI can immediately schedule product audits as well as audits of suppliers’ meat so that can verify slaughtering process and handling meat too,” explained Muslich.
The auditors, he continued, will make intensive contact to guide the halal certification process to run faster. If the required material is not sufficient in documents, the auditor can be providing a choice of halal material that already has a halal certificate through the website www.halalmui.org.
LPPOM MUI has also prepared forms or sample documents and manual templates for the Halal Assurance System (SJH). Therefore, the SME’s actors only need to fill in and adjust to the conditions in their respective places. Direct discussion access for the preparation of halal certification is also provided by LPPOM MUI and can be accessed through the CEROL-SS23000 website.
“By all of the preparation mentioned, it is expected that halal certification for MSEs can run more quickly and precisely by meeting the standards that have been set. For SME’s, only prepare a strong intention, and we will guide. We hope that the process of obtaining halal provisions from MUI and halal certificates from BPJPH can be carried out faster and can assist the competitiveness of MSEs,” concluded Muslich. (YN)
