  • Vice President Advises, Halal Certification Tariffs Are Not Charged by MSE’s

Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin gathered several ministers to discuss the application of halal product assurance certification. According to Kiai Ma’ruf, he wanted to get a report related to the implementation of halal product assurance certification, which began on October 17, 2019.

“Today we want to get a report on the implementation of Law No. 33 2014 on Halal Product Assurance which must start from October 17, 2019,” Kiai Ma’ruf said when opening a meeting at the Vice President’s Office, Jakarta, Thursday (1/9).

Kiai Ma’ruf rate, the need for careful preparation related to the implementation of halal certification of products. This is so, and there are no disruptions in the halal certification process. The preparations include registration, halal inspection institutions, product evaluation standards, and tariffs.

He also said that the Government agreed not to burden micro and small businesses (MSEs) in halal certification. This is done by freeing the cost of certification or free.

To date, the Government is in the process of compiling detailed schemes for halal certification rates. Kiai Ma’ruf ensured that the scheme would later include transparent and measurable tariff provisions. However, it is not sure whether the options include subsidies from ABPN or cross-subsidies from large businesses.

“Yes, I will think about it later, so how it is cheap, so it does not burden the state budget and does not burden small companies, MSEs,” said Kiai Ma’ruf.

Kiai Ma’ruf also mentioned continuing to synchronize ministries and institutions in accelerating the application of halal certification. This is because of the implementation of halal certification by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), which should have started on October 17, 2019, has not yet been implemented.

He believes, if the rules and schemes are clear, the application of halal certification through BPJPH, as decided some time ago, can be implemented as soon as possible. “Our desire is as soon as possible,” said Kiai Ma’ruf.
