Symbolically the handover of Halal Provisions from the Food, Medicines and Cosmetics Assessment Institute of the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI) and the Halal Certificate of the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) to PT Sari Sandwich Indonesia which is a subsidiary of PT MAP Boga Adiperkasa was carried out at the Subway Indonesia Halal Certification Press Conference on March 29, 2022.

"We express our appreciation and gratitude to Subway Indonesia for its initiative to carry out the halal certification process. This shows that the company is committed to providing assurance to consumers that the food they consume is safe and halal. Subway Indonesia has an obligation to maintain the halal commitment of its products during the validity period of the halal certificate," explained the President Director of LPPOM MUI, Ir. Muti Arintawati, M.Si.

On that occasion, the President Director of PT MAP Boga Adiperkasa, Anthony Cottan, conveyed the importance of halal essence in a product. According to him, halal is not only about materials, but also quality standards, materials, processes, and services. With the halal certificate, Anthony hopes that Muslims can feel at ease when enjoying Subway sandwiches.

"This is an honor, international brands can get an Indonesian halal certificate. This is not an easy thing, it requires good discipline, both for Muslims and non-Muslims though. The process is very good and detailed. We learned a lot through the halal product assurance system," anthony said.

Meanwhile, Halal Partnership & Audit Services Director of LPPOM MUI, Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si., explained that the halal certification process is a long process. The halal certification system in Indonesia is not only related to products, but also the management system, namely the halal product assurance system (SJPH). If we look at there are five criteria.

"Material is only one of the criteria of SJPH. There are many other criteria that must be met to be able to get a halal certificate, ranging from forming a team, rules, procedures, internal audits. It will be checked not only at the head office or kitchen, but also at the outlet. All personnel on that line must understand the procedures of this halal system," he said.

Head of the Center for Halal Cooperation and Standardization of BPJPH Siti Aminah expressed her gratitude and was also proud of the awareness and commitment of PT Sari Sandwich Indonesia as a business actor who views halal guarantees as an added value for the business world and increase public trust.

"The government continues to encourage business actors and the community to prepare themselves to welcome the implementation of halal-certified obligations. This is not only to protect Indonesian citizens from eating halal and healthy food, but also to provide added value to products," said Aminah.

Subway Indonesia opened its first outlet in October 2021 at Cilandak Town Square, South Jakarta. Now, Subway Indonesia already has 17 outlets, 14 of which are spread across the DKI Jakarta area. (YN)
