Keeping the body healthy and fit needs to be a concern for a Muslim. This is in accordance with the advice of the Prophet Muhammad, who always maintains his health. Following the sunnah of the Prophet, Adrian Maulana implements various activities to maintain his lifestyle. In addition, consuming halal products is also something that this public figure pays close attention to. Adrian Maulana had the opportunity to share his experience with the Halal Journal Team. How is his story?
Never imagined before this October-born man would enter the entertainment sector. Yes, Adrian Maulana has been a model, film actor, and news anchor. It all started with his choice to adopt a healthy and halal lifestyle. Initially, little Adrian had a stocky body, until finally he met Ade Rai, an athlete, who managed to change his lifestyle until now.
“A healthy lifestyle is the most effective medicine. People think that someone becomes healthy because of the doctor and his effective medicine. In fact, Allah has created our bodies in such a way that they can recover on their own, even if they are not treated,” explained Adrian.
Furthermore, the father of two daughters gave an example of many people whose cancer even disappeared after maintaining a healthy lifestyle, doing useful activities, and having a good influence on their mindset. According to Adrian, by doing positive activities, the body’s metabolism that was previously sick will return to normal. Adrian continues to try to spread his good habits to many people, at least to those closest to him, such as his parents, wife, and children.
Halal and Thayyib Products Are the Choice
Especially in terms of choosing products to consume, Adrian has his preferences. According to him, learning about halal and haram is not only related to worship but also related to muamalah. Islam has regulated human life in detail, all neatly recorded in the Qur’an and Hadith. This includes its relation to the halalness of food and drinks consumed, both in terms of physical and mental health.
As mentioned in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 168. “O humanity! Eat from what is lawful and good on the earth and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. He is truly your sworn enemy.”
“So indeed in the Qur’an, as a guide for Muslims, consuming food that is lawful and good is very important. Currently, there are many choices of halal and good food—halal and thayyib. I am increasingly interested in implementing a lifestyle like that in my life,” said Adrian.
Previously, this lover of Japanese cuisine thought that food was halal only if the main ingredients were halal. Everything changed since his experience some time ago. Adrian said that he and his family had visited a famous Japanese restaurant that, at that time, did not yet have a halal certificate. When he was about to order, one of the employees informed him that there were ingredients that were not halal on the restaurant’s menu. From there, he realized that there were additional ingredients and supporting ingredients that also needed to be considered. In addition, production facilities also needed to be ensured to be halal.
“I thought halal was only about the main ingredients of the food, even though there were additional ingredients that could not be halal. It would be good for restaurants to pay attention to the halalness of their products. Halal is very crucial, especially for us, Muslims,” he explained.
Tips for a Halal and Healthy Lifestyle
In implementing a halal and healthy lifestyle, Adrian Maulana shared three tips that you can apply in your daily life. First, fortify yourself with faith. Indonesia is not a country that implements a halal lifestyle. Many restaurants and entertainment venues are not in accordance with Islamic law, while access is very easy. Therefore, each needs to fortify themselves so that things outside of Islamic law do not influence them. Even so, this does not necessarily mean a form of rejection because there are aspects of government regulations that cannot be controlled.
Second, upgrade yourself. “I am grateful to have been born in a state of Islam, there are already rules that provide goodness. I am already in the context, we just want to obey. As long as it is in the Qur’an, then we will obey. If there is something that is not yet certain, I always involve teachers who are considered more expert and knowledgeable. Upgrading yourself, especially regarding religious knowledge, is one of the efforts to provide an example to at least the closest family,” explained Adrian.
Third, exercise and halal consumption. Exercise is an activity as an effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which has been exemplified since 14 centuries ago by the Prophet Muhammad. As is known from various hadiths, the Prophet had a slim and athletic body because he liked to exercise and maintain his food intake.
The aspect of halal food and drinks was also very much considered by the Prophet Muhammad. One of them that the Prophet also taught was related to stopping eating before being full, not justifying eating according to one’s heart. He also always maintained his healthy activities, not only aspects of physical activity but also rest, such as sleeping after Isha and waking up before dawn.
Many things can be imitated from the daily life of the Prophet, which is very good if applied to the daily life of a Muslim. This is what makes the Prophet a role model for Adrian Maulana. “If someone says ‘I follow Mas Adrian’s lifestyle’, I actually follow the Prophet’s lifestyle,” he said.
Closing the interview session, Adrian reminded us that everything alive will surely die. What will differentiate one person from another are three things, namely when, where, and in what condition we pass away. “For the last point, I feel like I want to pass away in good health. Not because I have been cruel to myself, but due to the accumulation of decades. In my old age, I don’t want to make things difficult for myself,” he said closing the interview session. (YN/DIL)
