After obtaining the ISO 17065: 2012 accreditation certificate for the Halal Certification Body (LSH) category in January 2018 in Jakarta, which was submitted directly by the Head of BSN, Prof. Dr.. Ir. Bambang Prasetya, M.Sc to the Director of LPPOM MUI Dr. Ir. Lukmanul Hakim, M.Si.

Through this SNI ISO / IEC 17065: 2012 certificate, LPPOM MUI can run certification bodies according to international standards.

This includes the acceptance of products certified by LPPOM MUI to countries with the same standard reference, for example the UAE (United Arab Emirates). There will be convenience for the export of products that have been certified by LPPOM MUI to enter the Middle East countries and the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) through recognition by the Accreditation Institute in the Middle East Emirate Authorty for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).

Officially, the recognition of LPPOM MUI by ESMA can be seen on the official ESMA website at the link, https://moiat.gov.ae/en/open-data/halal?accreditationTab=halal-certification-bodies&halalCertifcateSearchText=indonesia&halalCertificateCountry=&halalCertificateStatus=.

With the inclusion of LPPOM MUI on the official ESMA website, LPPOM MUI has the right to use the accreditation symbol or accreditation statement by KAN (National Accreditation Committee) within the scope of slaughterhouses (RPH) and in accordance with the UAE standard scheme. LPPOM MUI has an additional scope, namely RPH, and has a total accreditation scope of 14 categories based on the UAE standard 2055: 2-2016.

KAN will then supervise the halal certification body for products exported to the UAE and supervise the certification body to ensure the integrity of the halal certificate issued.

Director of LPPOM MUI, Dr. Lukmanul Hakim, M.Si stated, Recognition from ESMA makes products certified by LPPOM MUI have added value to be able to enter and export to Middle Eastern countries.

Donny Purnomo, Director of Accreditation System and Harmonization – BSN, explained that ESMA standard accreditation is expected to encourage Indonesian halal certified producers to expand the market to the UAE so that it will ultimately increase the value of Indonesia’s exports.

It added that based on the agreement between KAN and ESMA on July 23, 2018, ESMA recognized halal certificates issued by halal certification bodies accredited by KAN under the requirements of UAE standards.

LPPOM MUI as a Halal Certification Body accredited by KAN has obtained accreditation by referring to ESMA standards (UAE 2055-2). It is hoped that this achievement will be able to encourage Indonesian producers to expand the market to the UAE so that in the end it will increase the value of Indonesia’s exports.
