Tegaskan Pentingnya Fiqih dan Sains dalam Berkurban, LPPOM dan HSC IPB Selenggarakan Pelatihan
Eid al-Adha is not just an annual ritual. Still, it has a momentum of worship full of social and spiritual meaning, and its implementation also follows scientific principles based on science. Unfortunately, there are still many qurban practices that deviate from Sharia principles and the fulfillment of the ASUH principle—safe, healthy, intact and halal. In response to this challenge, LPH LPPOM and the Halal Science Center IPB held special training sessions on handling and slaughtering qurban animals.

Every Eid al-Adha, millions of Muslims in Indonesia perform the qurban worship with sincere intentions and a spirit of sharing. However, few realize that technical errors in the slaughtering and handling of qurban meat can make this noble worship invalid, according to Sharia, and even pose a risk to public health.

Responding to this, the Halal Inspection Body (LPH) LPPOM collaborated with the IPB Halal Science Center (HSC) IPB for the Handling and Slaughtering of Sacrificial Animals Training on May 29, 2025, at the IPB Gunung Gede Campus, Bogor. A total of 50 selected participants from the Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) management and the general public participated in the training, which combined the approaches of fiqh and science.

Representing the management of LPH LPPOM, Ir. Hendra Utama, MM. conveyed his institution’s strong commitment to supporting the implementation of qurban worship by Sharia, which is safe in terms of health and optimally beneficial for the community.

“We express our full support for the integrated implementation of qurban fiqh and science-based animal handling. The collaboration of religious scholars, animal husbandry experts and veterinarians will ensure that the community’s sacrifices meet the criteria, namely that they are valid according to Sharia, safe in terms of health, and optimal in terms of socially,” said Hendra in his speech.

Furthermore, he encouraged the training participants to take advantage of this opportunity to master the technical aspects of slaughtering while understanding the underlying Sharia laws.

“To the 50 selected participants, please take advantage of this learning space. Master technical skills and understand sharia law. So that our sacrifices are accepted and beneficial to the community,” he said frankly.

This training is a real form of LPH LPPOM’s commitment to developing the national halal ecosystem, especially in the field of slaughtering sacrificial animals, which is often a challenge in the field. On the other hand, many mosque administrators and the general public have not received adequate technical or fiqh training regarding the correct and proper slaughtering procedures.

This was also highlighted by the Head of the IPB Halal Science Study Center, Prof. Dr. Ir. Khaswar Syamsu, M.Sc., who said that this activity was designed to answer the very urgent educational needs in the community so that they get precise, proportional, and balanced information about the rules for slaughtering sacrificial animals according to Islamic law.

“In addition to the sharia in sacrificing, several other materials that will be presented in this event are related to choosing sacrificial animals and recognizing healthy animals, how to calculate carcasses/meat of sacrificial animals, handling sacrificial meat, and the distribution process properly and correctly according to the ASUH rules,” explained Prof. Khaswar.

He also appreciated LPH LPPOM’s contribution to providing facilities and animals for field practice, which is an inseparable part of this training and of LPH LPPOM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“We would like to thank LPPOM for providing facilities and goats in this training. Today there will be a practice of slaughtering goats and knocking down cows. Hopefully after this training, we can gain knowledge that is practiced in slaughtering sacrifices, so that Allah SWT accepts our sacrifices,” he added.

Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal (ASUH) is the basis for properly handling sacrificial meat. Based on research results from HSC IPB and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine IPB, there are still many deviations in the practice of slaughtering and distributing sacrificial meat in the field, one of which is due to the low understanding of the ASUH principle.

Meat that meets the ASUH concept is not only safe but also free from disease, meets halal requirements, is not contaminated with filth, is not contaminated with hazardous materials, and is hygienically packaged to be suitable for consumption. Ignorance of this aspect can reduce the quality of the sacrificial worship and even impact the health of the community that consumes the sacrificial meat.

Through this training, participants are invited to understand from the beginning, starting from the selection of animals that meet sharia criteria and are free from disease, the slaughtering process according to Sharia, to the distribution of safe sacrificial meat to people in need.

LPH LPPOM and HSC IPB hope that this training will become an educational model that can be replicated in various regions to improve the quality of sacrificial worship implementation in Indonesia. In addition to ritual worship, sacrifice is a form of social contribution and commitment to fulfilling halal values.

With the collaboration between scientists, scholars, and technical practitioners, the implementation of sacrifice is expected to not only be valid before Allah SWT but also provide optimal benefits for the community from the health and social aspects and support the availability of food supplies.
