Indonesia has imposed mandatory halal regulations for all products circulating in Indonesia. LPPOM continues to intensify education on this matter domestically and abroad, including at the 2025 Food & Hotel Asia (FHA) exhibition in Singapore. The hope is that BPJPH halal certification can be completed easily and quickly.
Amidst the strict global halal regulations, Indonesia has taken a strategic step by introducing its halal certification system at the prestigious FHA Food and Beverages 2025 event in Singapore. LPPOM, as a Halal Inspection Body (LPH), is present to encourage the fulfilment of halal certification requirements for imported products.
In the series of Food & Hotel Asia (FHA) 2025 exhibitions held on April 8–11 at the Singapore Expo Hall 5, the Director of Halal Partnership and Audit Services LPPOM, Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si., delivered a presentation on the policy of mandatory halal certification for products distributed in Indonesia to international business actors, especially in the food and beverage sector. This presentation took place in a seminar session on April 9, 2025, as part of an effort to strengthen global understanding of halal certification policies in Indonesia.
In his presentation entitled “Indonesia’s Mandatory Halal Law: Challenges and Opportunities for International Brands” Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si explained the importance of implementing the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) in the production and distribution system for international business actors who want to enter the Indonesian market.
This is by implementing Act No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH), Act No. 6 of 2023, Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 and several derivative regulations. Obligations The provisions for halal certification are mandatory in stages. “Starting October 17, 2024, halal certification is mandatory for food and beverages from medium and large companies, raw materials, food additives, auxiliary materials in food and beverage processing, meat and slaughterhouses, maklon services, logistics, and retail. Exceptions are given for foreign products which will be mandatory in 2026,” explained Dr. Muslich.
Meanwhile, the second phase, on October 17, 2026, will cover products from micro and small businesses, imported products, herbal medicines, supplements, cosmetics, chemical products, genetically engineered products, and low-risk medical devices.
He also explained that Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) involves three leading institutions. BPJPH is the technical regulator, MUI is the party issuing the halal fatwa decision, and LPPOM is the Halal Inspection Body (LPH).
In this system, BPJPH is responsible for issuing halal certificates through the SIHALAL online platform (https://ptsp.halal.go.id). At the same time, MUI, through the Fatwa Commission, acts as a decision-maker based on the audit results. LPPOM itself is tasked with conducting halal inspections or audits.
Through activities like this, LPPOM seeks to strengthen global partnerships and support industry players in adapting to rapid regulatory changes while taking advantage of growth opportunities in the increasingly competitive and open Indonesian halal market.
FHA Singapore is an essential momentum in strengthening the international halal industry network. Amidst the demands of consumers increasingly aware of the halalness of products, LPPOM is here to provide certainty, clarity, and full support for global business players who want to succeed in the Indonesian market.
