FamilyMart, FamiCafe, and FamiSuper outlets are Indonesia’s first Food and Beverage provider outlets to have Halal Certificates since March 16, 2023, with ID number 00410001350330223. PT Fajar Mitra Indah (Part of the Wings Group), as the sole licensee (master franchise) of FamilyMart, now has 254 outlets.

The President Director of The Assessment Institute For Foods, Drugs, And Cosmetics Indonesian Council Of Ulama (LPPOM MUI), Muti Arintawati, said that halal certificates are the responsibility of Muslim consumers.

“Before registering for halal certification, companies must have implemented the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) by government regulations,” he said.

Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) has five criteria: Commitment and Responsibility, Materials, Halal Product Process, Products, and Monitoring and Evaluation. Should these conditions have been declared passed, the LPPOM auditor will conduct an audit to verify the product and other requirements.

The audit results will be brought to the MUI Fatwa Commission to issue a halal fatwa and a Halal Decree. Then, the Halal Decree is submitted to BPJPH to issue a Halal Certificate.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Muhammad Aqil Irham, appreciated obtaining a halal certificate for FamilyMart. According to him, Halal certificates will positively impact and add value to business actors because they can provide guarantees. “With the guarantee of halal products, companies can win public trust,” he said.

This certification, continued Aqil, allows FamilyMart to participate in encouraging the growth of the halal industrial ecosystem in Indonesia, as mandated by Act No. 33 of 2014 concerning Guarantees for Halal Products. Apart from that, it is also to succeed the government program that requires halal certification on October 17, 2024, especially for food products, beverages, slaughter products and slaughter services, raw materials, food additives, and auxiliary materials for food and beverage products.

Head of Operation FamilyMart, Tulus Prasetio, said this halal certificate proves that the products produced by FamilyMart always use truly halal raw materials. “So that the comfort and safety of consumers is always maintained,” he said.

Tulus emphasized that the manufacturing process and raw materials are the same before or after obtaining the halal certificate. Obtaining this halal certificate confirms that the ready-to-eat products produced by FamilyMart come from suppliers who have halal certificates, use quality raw materials, and are hygienic.

“After obtaining this halal certification, we have become more selective in choosing our raw material suppliers. We are also more aware in ensuring halal guarantees for each product,” said Tulus.

FamilyMart considers this certification important to guarantee and ensure to the public that the products produced by FamilyMart are truly halal for consumption. Thus, creating a sense of security for FamilyMart consumers, especially Muslims. (***)
