Apa Manfaat Sertifikasi Halal bagi Pemerintah, Pelaku Usaha, dan Masyarakat?

The benefits of halal certification can be felt by various parties, from the Government to business actors to people from various circles. In this case, LPPOM is improving its services and programs so that the benefits of halal certification are increasingly widespread.

Halal certification has become an essential issue in Indonesia, especially after the Government required all products circulating in the country to have a halal label. This regulation is in accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 concerning implementing the Halal Product Assurance Sector. So, what are the benefits of this halal certification for the Government, business actors, and society?

Responding to this, the President Director of LPPOM, Muti Arintawati, spoke up. According to her, halal certification aims to provide comfort and security for Muslim consumers so that they avoid consuming products whose halal status is unclear. “The government, in accordance with the mandate of the constitution, is obliged to provide protection to all citizens in practicing their religion and beliefs,” said Muti.

As a country with a Muslim majority population, the question arises whether all products in Indonesia are automatically halal? She explained that rapidly developing technology, especially in the food industry, makes it possible for the food and beverage production process to be mixed with additional ingredients and auxiliary materials from abroad. These countries do not always have a Muslim-majority population, so the halalness of the raw materials is not necessarily guaranteed.

“The halalness of raw materials, additional materials, auxiliary materials, and the production process must be guaranteed. That is why the existence of halal certification issued by an official institution is important so that consumers feel comfortable,” added Muti.

Benefits for the Government: Increasing Foreign Exchange and Stimulating the Economy

For the Government, halal certification not only implements regulations but also has a major economic impact. By increasing the number of domestic producers who are halal certified, halal certification is expected to spur economic growth. Thus, Indonesian products can compete in the potential global halal market.

Based on data from the State of Global Islamic Report, consumption of halal products for food and beverages alone is estimated to reach US$1.38 trillion by the end of 2024. Indonesia is one of the largest consumers in the world’s halal food industry, with transactions reaching US$173 million.

The Government sees this great opportunity as a golden opportunity for Indonesian business actors. To support this, policies that facilitate the halal certification process continue to be issued. “Through halal certification, the government is trying to capture the global halal market, the impact of which can increase the country’s foreign exchange and accelerate national economic growth,” explained Muti.

Benefits for Business Actors: Market Expansion and Business Scale

In addition to the Government, business actors also feel the great benefits of halal certification. With a recognized halal label, product acceptance will be wider domestically and in the global market, especially in the Middle East and Southeast Asia regions with high demand for halal food products.

Through the export of halal products, business actors gain economic benefits and contribute to Indonesia’s overall economic growth. “International market expansion is one of the real impacts of halal certification for business actors. This is a great opportunity that must be utilized optimally,” he added.

Benefits for Society: Consumer Convenience and Safety

For society, especially Muslim consumers, halal certification provides a guarantee of the halalness of the products they consume. With the halal label, consumers can feel calmer because the products they consume have been inspected by Islamic law.

Halal certification also increases public awareness of the importance of choosing products based on religious values. This creates better consumption patterns and encourages producers to continue improving quality and transparency in the production process.

Dynamic halal regulations require all parties to continue to adapt and innovate. “The Government, business actors, and the community must work together to maximize the benefits of halal certification. That way, Indonesia can become a major player in the world halal market,” he said.

Through halal certification, Indonesia protects its consumers and strengthens its position as a center for the global halal economy. With market potential continuing to grow, halal certification is an important investment for the nation’s future.
