Ingin Bisnis Repacking Produk Impor Halal? Perhatikan Hal-Hal Berikut

The interest of Indonesian Muslims in imported products continues to increase. Unfortunately, this has not been accompanied by the availability of affordable and easily obtained halal imported products, especially those with BPJPH halal certificates. The large market share makes the halal imported product business one of the most popular. From a halal aspect, what do business actors need to pay attention to?

In recent years, fast food, packaged food, and imported meat products have become easier to find on the market, especially in supermarkets. However, as the availability of these products increases, concerns have arisen about the halalness of the products.

The government has regulated the distribution of these imported products, one of which is in Government Regulation (PP) No. 42 of 2024, which states that products entering, circulating, and trading in Indonesia’s territory must be halal certified. The stages for each category have also been regulated, specifically for foreign or imported products, effective October 17, 2026.

International Halal Partner LPPOM, Asya Fathya N.Z., said that complying with halal regulations provides many benefits, both for business actors and consumers. “Indonesian consumers are very concerned about the halalness of products, especially for imported products. By having a valid halal label and complete certification, your products will be more easily accepted in the market,” explained Asya.

In addition, compliance with halal standards also provides a competitive advantage. In increasingly tight market competition, having a valid halal certification can be an added value differentiating your product from competitors.

By complying with applicable regulations, business actors ensure the halalness of their products and build consumer trust and a strong business reputation. “Compliance with BPJPH halal standards is a long-term investment for the success of your business,” said Asya.

Understanding the halal certification path and preparing the necessary documents is a very important first step for those who want to start a halal import product business. Two halal certification pathways can be taken in Indonesia: self-declare and regular.

“Self-declare is a pathway designed for simple products that do not have a high risk to their halal status, such as banana chips or other snacks,” said Asya. This pathway allows business actors to declare the halal status of their products independently. BPJPH determines products that can be processed through the self-declare pathway through a Decree of the Head of BPJPH. However, the determination of halal status is still carried out by the Halal Product Fatwa Committee formed by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH).

Regular certification is the path to take for more complex products or those with critical halal material risks. The Halal Inspection Body (LPH) carries out the certification process, one of which is LPH LPPOM. After the inspection, the product’s halal status will be determined by the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI).

As a business actor, ensuring that your imported products have a halal certificate from an institution recognized by BPJPH is important. If not, the halal certification process referring to the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) must be done immediately.

There are five SJPH criteria, including 1) commitment and responsibility, 2) materials, 3) halal product process, 4) products, and 5) monitoring and evaluation. Business actors must meet all of these. One of the crucial things is the readiness of halal storage and distribution facility documents. For example, if a product requires special storage facilities such as cold storage, which are critical, then these facilities must also comply with halal standards.

Another thing that is no less important is ensuring that imported products have a halal certificate issued by an institution recognized by BPJPH. To ensure the halalness of a product, you can check the halal logo on its packaging. “Make sure the logo is an official halal logo recognized in Indonesia. For imported products, the Indonesian halal logo must be listed on the packaging after obtaining accreditation from BPJPH,” explained Asya.

In addition to checking the halal logo, business actors can verify the halal certification status of the product through the official website of LPPOM MUI (www.halalmui.org) or BPJPH. By entering the product name in the search column, business actors can find complete information about halal certificates, including the names of official distributors and outlets. This method can provide additional certainty for consumers in choosing products that comply with halal standards.

Good luck! (YN)
