A Muslim must place the Qur’an as a means of self-reflection, a guide to practice and a place to learn lessons. What should be done?
Human interaction with the Qur’an has been clearly regulated in the letter Al Baqarah, verses 1 to verse 20. In the letter, human interaction is divided into three groups in its interaction with the Qur’an, namely verses 1-5 are the group of believers; verses 6-7 are the group of infidels; and verses 8-20 are the group of hypocrites.
How believers interact with the Qur’an is stated in the letter Ash-Shura verses 52-53. “And thus, do We reveal to you the revelation (the Qur’an) by Our command. You did not know before what the Book (the Qur’an) was, nor what faith was, but We made it a light, guiding thereby whom We will of Our servants. And verily you guide to a straight path, the path of Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And remember that to Allah all matters return.” In this regard, there are five ways to interact with the Al-Qur’an, namely by:
- Read the Koran regularly every day
- Understand the meaning and content of the Al-Qur’an
- Have good morals and do good deeds in accordance with the instructions of the Al-Qur’an
- Memorize the Al-Qur’an
- Teaching and preaching the Al-Qur’an
Allah says: ‘This is’ a blessed Book which We have revealed to you ‘O Prophet’ so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful. (QS. Shad, verse 29).
The wisdom and lessons from Surah Shad verse 29 relate to the Al-Qur’an as a curriculum for life. The Koran is a book full of blessings. Blessing means tsubuutu al-khairi wa dawaamuhu (the establishment and continuity of goodness), katsratu al-khairi wa zi yaadatuhu (many and increasing goodness). Whoever wants his life to be abundant with blessings should be close to the Qur’an.
The blessings of the Qur’an for humans if and only if the two goals of the Qur’an are realized in life by means of “tadabbur”, which is contemplating, thinking about, and understanding the verses of the Qur’an. “taking lessons”, which is practising the values of the Qur’an in life, and only the ulu al-albab people, namely people who are clean, clear, and rational, can learn lessons from the Qur’an, by applying it and practising it in life.
The Word of Allah SWT: “We have revealed to you ‘O Prophet’ this Book with the truth, as a confirmation of previous Scriptures and a supreme authority on them. So, judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires over the truth that has come to you. To each of you We have ordained a code of law and a way of life. If Allah had willed, He would have made you one community, but His Will is to test you with what He has given ‘each of’ you. So, compete with one another in doing good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you ‘of the truth’ regarding your differences”. (QS. Al-Maidah, verse 48)
Wisdom and lessons from the word of Allah SWT. This is that the Qur’an is a source of knowledge, a source of reference, a source of truth about which there is no doubt. Guide to human life. That’s why the Koran is the main foundation for living life. Apart from that, the content of the Qur’an focuses on the aspect of faith, namely the good relationship between humans and their God, and the aspect of morals, namely the good relationship between humans and humans, and humans and their environment.
Another lesson is that the Al-Qur’an contains teachings, rules, and goals which are universally applicable, transparent and clear so that the life curriculum extracted from the Al-Qur’an is a curriculum that is clear, clear and can be implemented at any time and place. In another letter, Allah SWT. said: We have revealed to you the Book (Al-Quran) as an explanation of all things, a guide, a mercy, and good news for those who ‘fully’ submit. (QS. An-Nahl, verse 89)
The wisdom and lesson from this verse regarding the Al-Qur’an as a curriculum for life is that the Al-Qur’an is tibyaanan likulli syai-in (an explanation of everything). The meaning is that the Koran is an explanation and answer to all human problems. The Qur’an is hudan (guidance). Guidance for humans in living life in this world so that they are free from mistakes, mistakes and error.
The Qur’an is rahmah (abundant goodness). By following and carrying out the instructions of the Qur’an, they will receive abundant goodness, and Allah’s love will cover them.
The Qur’an is busyra (good news). Good news for anyone who submits to Allah, carries out His commands, and stays away from His prohibitions. By living life based on the instructions of the Qur’an, you will get busyra or good news. (Summarized from the LPPOM MUI Friday Morning Study).
