There are many types of halal products, including the food and beverage category. To make a final product halal, raw materials needed must be halal.
This was conveyed by the Director of the Chinese Representative Office of the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs, and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM), Mr. Dawood Su, during the visit of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, K.H. Ma’ruf Amin, at the LPPOM MUI Shanghai Al Amin Co Representative Office. Ltd., Shanghai, China, on September 18, 2023.
“Most raw materials originate from animals, such as cows, goats, pigs, animal organs, and fat. When these animal products are used in medicines, cosmetics, food, and beverages, it will affect the halalness of the product. Halal products can become non-halal,” Ma’ruf explained.
From 16 years ago until now, the Chinese representative office, LPPOM MUI, has achieved quite a significant achievement. More than 1,000 companies and 7,000 types of products are spread throughout China.
“Indonesia’s stringent halal standards are a Halal Assurance System that we have implemented. This is our starting point in building trust so consumers can accept it,” said Mr. Dawood Su.
As we all know, the Indonesian government is working to realize a certification program for 10 million halal products by 2024. What needs to be highlighted is the creation of a halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream. This upstream part is what LPPOM MUI is working on. An LPPOM MUI representative office in China is expected to encourage the progress of the halal industry in Indonesia. (***)
