For 37 years, LPPOM has consistently maintained public trust through credible and integrity-based halal certification. In this milestone, LPPOM affirms its role not merely as a certification implementer but as a guardian of values, strengthening the national halal ecosystem, supporting state policies, and nurturing hope for an increasingly credible halal future in Indonesia.
Thirty-seven years is a long journey, traveled with perseverance and trust. For LPPOM, formerly known as LPPOM MUI, this milestone is not merely a marker of time, but a testament to the mandate it has consistently upheld since its inception: ensuring the halal status of products and providing public security. The year 2025 also represents a moment of reflection and optimism for LPPOM to reaffirm its role in building a strong, inclusive, and globally competitive Indonesian halal ecosystem.
The President Director of LPPOM, Muti Arintawati, stated that LPPOM’s 37-year journey has essentially been a journey of nurturing trust and hope. “Halal certification is not simply an administrative process. It is a mandate to protect the public and ensure that the products consumed are beneficial. LPPOM’s achievements throughout 2025 demonstrate that with collaboration and commitment, Indonesia’s halal ecosystem can grow stronger and become globally competitive,” She said.
Since pioneering the halal certification system in Indonesia, LPPOM has grown in line with community needs and the dynamics of state policy. In its 37th year, LPPOM continues to emphasize that halal certification is not only about complying with regulations, but also about maintaining public trust. Behind every halal certificate lies a lengthy process of inspection, verification, and moral responsibility to ensure that products in circulation are truly halal, safe, and thayyib.
This commitment becomes even more relevant in 2025, when the government strengthens the Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG). This program is designed to ensure adequate nutrition for Indonesia’s young generation while ensuring the halal status of the food they consume daily. In this context, the role of halal certification becomes crucial. LPPOM serves as the government’s strategic partner, supporting policy implementation by conducting halal inspections of MBG kitchens across various regions.
Supported by a network spanning 34 provinces and more than 800 competent auditors, LPPOM strives to ensure that the halal certification process for MBG kitchens, conducted by BPJPH (Halal Product Assurance Agency), runs effectively and meets standards. Halal certification is a crucial tool for preventing the risk of contamination with haram or impure ingredients from the initial stages through to serving. More than just an administrative procedure, this effort reflects LPPOM’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s future generations.
At the national level, LPPOM also continues to strengthen the halal ecosystem from the upstream side. Significant challenges in the halal supply chain often arise in the early stages of production, including meat grinding services. To address these challenges, LPPOM has initiated various halal certification facilitation programs for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). During the 1446 H Shawwal Festival, 103 meat processing facilities across multiple provinces received assistance and facilitation with halal certification. This step not only strengthens compliance but also opens up opportunities to increase MSE competitiveness.
Meanwhile, at the global level, LPPOM, through the LPPOM MUI Laboratory, has been present on the worldwide stage, specifically at the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) international forums in Southeast Asia and the United States. Their presence as speakers and presenters at scientific conferences confirms that LPPOM not only conducts halal certification but also actively contributes to the development of globally recognized scientific methods for halal testing.
Furthermore, LPPOM’s dedication to halal certification services has also received international recognition. In September 2025, LPPOM received the GIFA Championship Award 2025 for the Halal Certification category at the Global Islamic Finance Awards in Kuala Lumpur. This award affirms LPPOM’s position as an institution that consistently maintains the credibility and quality of halal certification, while strengthening Indonesia’s reputation within the global halal ecosystem.
Furthermore, LPPOM recognizes that the future of the halal ecosystem is determined not only by regulations and technology, but also by the awareness of the next generation. Through the Gen Halal Championship program, LPPOM encourages students from across Indonesia to understand halal as part of their character and lifestyle. The high level of enthusiasm among 1,493 students from all provinces in Indonesia reflects the growing spirit of halal literacy from an early age. This represents a long-term investment that will ensure the sustainability of the halal certification system in Indonesia. Maintaining halal means preserving values, and nurturing hope means ensuring sustainability. In its 37th year, LPPOM moves forward with optimism, armed with extensive experience, innovation, and a collaborative spirit to remain at the forefront of halal certification services. (YN)
