LPPOM Imbau Masyarakat Waspada Terhadap Jamu Mengandung Alkohol di Rute Mudik

Responding to the free distribution of herbal medicine with an alcohol content of more than 10% at several points on the Eid homecoming route, LPPOM expressed its deep concern and appealed to the public to be more vigilant in choosing consumer products during the trip.

Based on the Fatwa of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) No. 10 of 2018 concerning Food and Beverage Products Containing Alcohol/Ethanol, it is firmly stated that: “Drinks containing alcohol/ethanol (C2H5OH) of at least 0.5% are classified as khamr. Alcoholic beverages that fall into the khamr category are impure and haram, both in small and large amounts.”

Referring to the fatwa, LPPOM emphasized that herbal medicine or other traditional drinks containing more than 0.5% alcohol are included in the haram category for consumption. Moreover, suppose herbal medicine with an alcohol content of > 10% is consumed by drivers while traveling home. In that case, this is very dangerous because it has the potential to cause a drunken effect that can endanger the safety of themselves and other road users.

“We urge the public, especially travelers, to be more careful in buying and consuming food and beverage products. Do not be tempted by free products and be fooled by traditional packaging or claims of efficacy that are not accompanied by a halal guarantee. Especially if the product does not yet have an official Halal Certificate from BPJPH,” said The President Director of LPPOM, Muti Arintawati.

LPPOM also invites producers of herbal medicine or traditional drinks that contain high alcohol to market non-halal products with honest and open information to the public;

As a form of consumer protection, LPPOM urges the government to enforce the rules in Government Regulation (PP) Number 42 of 2024 Article 110a, which requires Business Actors to include a statement that they are not halal if they produce Products made from prohibited Materials.

We invite all parties to work together to maintain calm, security, and safety during homecoming by being more selective in choosing products. (*)
