As a form of concern for the Lewo Tobi Volcano Eruption victims, the LPPOM family is raising CSR donations distributed directly through its representative office in NTT. The funds have been distributed directly by the NTT Province LPPOM to the disaster-affected community.
Indonesia is in mourning again. Early Sunday morning, November 3, 2024, was the beginning of the tragedy for residents in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, when the Lewo Tobi Laki-Laki Volcano erupted. This incident left a trail of deep sorrow, with fatalities and thousands of residents who had to evacuate due to the powerful eruption.
Official data released by the East Flores Regency Government on November 20, 2024, recorded that the eruption caused 9 people to die, 31 people to suffer serious injuries, and 32 others to suffer minor injuries. The number of evacuees reached 12,959 people spread across eight sub-districts in the region. The East Flores Regency Government has also declared an emergency response status for 58 days, until December 31, 2024, with the possibility of an extension if the situation does not improve.
In response to this disaster, the big family of the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics (LPPOM) demonstrated real action through fundraising. The Director of LPPOM NTT Province, Dr. H. Khalid K. Moenardy, M.Si, explained that this initiative was a form of LPPOM’s concern and support to ease the burden on the affected community.
“This activity is one form of our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in East Flores who are facing a difficult trial. We want to ensure that this assistance can be directly felt by those in need,” said Khalid.
The fundraising involving the entire LPPOM extended family managed to raise funds of IDR 25,520,000.00. LPPOM NTT Province has distributed the funds directly by collaborating with local authorities to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most.
The aid was given in the form of cash, hoping it could be used to meet the most pressing needs. “We are trying our best to ensure that this aid is organized and on target. Thank you for the support from all parties who have contributed,” added Khalid.
Not only stopping at donations, LPPOM is also committed to continuing to monitor developments in the situation in East Flores. They hope this contribution can be the first step to help restore the affected areas, both physically and mentally. In its official statement, LPPOM emphasized that this solidarity aligns with its humanitarian values.
Although the emergency response period is ongoing, the people of East Flores hope the situation will recover soon and their lives can return to normal. Support from various parties, such as that provided by LPPOM, provides a glimmer of hope amidst the difficulties that have hit.
This solidarity shows that humanitarian values remain essential in dealing with disasters. With a spirit of togetherness, the Indonesian people can rise and strengthen each other in facing trials. (YN)
