The need to export and import halal products is increasing. Besides that, the government enforces halal product assurance regulations that must be obeyed by businesspeople who want to export products to Indonesia. Because of that, to make it easier for businesspeople, LPPOM fulfilled the invitation to provide an update on Indonesian halal regulations at the Indonesian Trade Attaché Office in Singapore.
The Indonesian Trade Attaché Office in Singapore, with the KBRI Singapura, Indonesia Investment Promotion Center/IIPC Office, and The Assessment Institute of Foods, Drugs, and Cosmetics (LPPOM), implementing the 3rd edition of Indonesia Update this year and cooperating with Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) on 14th August 2024 take placed at Singapore KBRI.
An event with a theme “Decoding Indonesia’s Packaging and F&B Market Potential and Regulations,” it provides an in-depth update that delves deeper into the market’s development, regulation, market trends, halal industry potential, packaging industry challenges, and food and beverage (F&B) in Indonesia.
Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (LB&BP Ambassador) to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, explained that the F&B industry potential in Indonesia is enormous. By 2023, the market value of the F&B industry reached 852 billion US$. This number has increased by 5,02% from last year.
In addition, the F&B market potential is not only domestic but also in the export market. By the year 2023, the F&B market value in Indonesia reached 44 billion US$ or more than 18% of the country’s total export value.
The halal industry is now an essential market for Indonesia and the whole globe. The market value of halal products in Indonesia is estimated at more than 303 billion US$, with Indonesia representing 17.8% of the halal market in Indonesia now.
“Forwardly, it is essential for Indonesia and Singapore to strengthen collaboration and teamwork that is more tactic and tangible so it can encourage growth in the food and beverage industry sector and sustainable halal industry,” Suryo explained.
At this opportunity, Muti Arintawati, the president and director of LPPOM, explained comprehensive issues related to policy and current regulations for halal products in Indonesia. Her side said that the government is obligated to provide a halal certificate for all products that are circulated in Indonesia.
This is in accordance with the regulation Constitution Number 33 of 2014 regarding the Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH) and its derivative, which has been in effect since 17 October 2019. In this matter, especially the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH) that is under the Ministry of Religion, that role as the JPH implementation organizer and supervisor.
According to Muti, businesspeople will sooner or later need to do the halal product certification, especially for food and beverage products for medium and enormous business scales, which will face the nearest deadline by 17th October 2024. Not only the final products of food and beverage, but all of the materials involved have to be halal certified, such as raw materials, additional food materials, and auxiliary materials.
LPPOM made various efforts to encourage the realization of halal obligations for every product category according to the government’s directions. This starts with giving education toward businesspeople to several programs to make it easier for businesspeople to do the halal certification quickly and easily, including providing an accessible halal certification facility.
To make it easy for consumers and businesspeople to look for a halal product reference quickly and easily, LPPOM provides a platform for Halal Product Searching that can be accessed through the website www.halalmui.org or the Halal MUI app that you can download from the Google Playstore and the BPJPH website. LPPOM also distributes halal education massively, spreading it through LPPOM’s social media.
LPPOM will open a discussion room for every businessperson whose products have not been halal certified through this Customer Care Service on Call Center 14056 or by WhatsApp 0811-1148-696. Businesspeople can also deepen the flow and process of halal certification by joining the Halal Certification Introduction (PSH) class, which is held routinely every week.
