LPH LPPOM Babel Dorong SDM Halal Berkualitas Lewat Pelatihan JULEHA
When the halal trend becomes more than a matter of belief and becomes part of a global lifestyle, LPH LPPOM Bangka Belitung plays an important role in producing competent halal human resources from the grassroots. Through the Halal Slaughterers (JULEHA) training, LPH LPPOM confirms its commitment to building a strong halal industry from upstream.

To support the strengthening of the national halal industry, the Halal Inspection Body (LPH) LPPOM Bangka Belitung Islands Province held the Halal Slaughterers (JULEHA) Training on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Pangkalpinang. Thirty participants from Islamic boarding school slaughterers and the general public attended this activity.

This step is part of LPH LPPOM Babel’s strategy to ensure that the slaughtering of animal products in the region complies with established Sharia principles while also answering the needs of the halal industry, which continues to grow globally.

This intensive training is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of halalness in slaughtering, not only from a technical perspective but also from a value perspective and moral responsibility as part of the halal supply chain.

The General Chairperson of the MUI of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Prof. Dr. KH. Hatamar Rasyid, M.Ag., who also attended the training, provided an in-depth understanding of the importance of guaranteeing halal products in the global era. In his presentation, Prof. Hatamar emphasized that societal halal literacy needs to be continuously strengthened.

“In the tradition of global society, the understanding has been embedded that if it is halal, it must be clean, and clean is not necessarily halal,” he said.

According to him, halal products are no longer limited to domestic needs but have become part of an international trend known as the halal lifestyle. “The halal industry has become part of a rapidly growing global trend,” he said.

He also emphasized that the halal industry is a strategic sector important in supporting the national economy. “The halal industry, as part of the Sharia economic ecosystem, has made a real contribution to national economic growth. In the future, it is hoped that the role of this sector can be even greater,” he said.

In this context, LPH LPPOM, as a halal inspection institution, is responsible for conducting audits and verifying halal products and plays a key role in developing human resources who understand halal procedures and values. JULEHA training is one concrete form of LPH LPPOM’s contribution to building a complete and trustworthy halal supply chain.

“Halal Slaughterer Training, which not only guarantees the halalness of animal products, but also provides a sense of security and comfort for Muslim consumers in consuming food and beverages,” continued Prof. Hatamar.

The Head of the Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office for the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Rommy S. Tamawiwy, conveyed the same message, saying that Halal Slaughterer has now become a strategic profession, even globally.

“The JULEHA profession not only guarantees the halal aspect of the product, but also brings new economic opportunities. In fact, several developed countries have begun to open up requests for JULEHA workers to meet the halal food needs of their Muslim communities,” he said.

Rommy also emphasized that the MUI, including through LPH LPPOM, is one of the critical stakeholders in developing the Sharia economic ecosystem. He stated that Bank Indonesia fully supports various programs that align with the development of the Sharia economy, including JULEHA training as part of the strategic program.

In this training, participants not only gain theoretical understanding but are also equipped with practical skills regarding halal slaughter procedures, an introduction to animal anatomy, and the principles of animal welfare from an Islamic perspective. This is important to ensure that every slaughterer is not only technically capable but also understands the halal values and standards set by the MUI.

Rommy also cited a World Bank report showing significant yearly growth in the global halal industry. “The development of halal food transactions globally, which is growing by double digits, shows a momentum that must be utilized,” he said.

In addition to Prof. Hatamar and Rommy Tamawiwy, this activity also presented other speakers, such as KH Ahmad Luthfi (Deputy Chairman of MUI Babel) and the Director of LPH LPPOM of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The speakers shared insights into various aspects, from regulations to field practices to the challenges of implementing halal slaughter in the field.

Through this training, LPH LPPOM Babel hopes to broaden understanding and produce professional JULEHA personnel, increasing the competitiveness of local halal products and expanding the market, both domestically and abroad.

With this strategy, LPH LPPOM strengthens the halal assurance system and plays an active role in supporting a quality and sustainable national halal ecosystem. (***)
