The halal certificate handover ceremony and Media Gathering entitled “Change Your Water, Change Your Life” was held on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the Coway Official Office, South Quarter Tower A, Jakarta. The halal certificate was presented by the Halal Partnership and Audit Services Director of LPPOM, Dr. Ir. On this occasion, the Halal Partnership and Audit Services Director of LPPOM, Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the certification process that Coway has gone through well. Coway’s good intentions to increase the trust of the Indonesian people in water purifier products are fully supported by LPPOM. As a Halal Inspection Body (LPH), LPPOM is tasked with ensuring the halalness of a product. LPH LPPOM, with 35 years of international experience and more than 55,000 clients in more than 65 countries, was chosen by Coway to conduct the inspection so that LPPOM inspected the entire process of halal inspection of Coway products.
Dr. Ir. Muslich, M.Si added, “The inspection was carried out starting from raw materials to the production facilities of Coway water purifiers. In addition, the company was also asked to form a halal management team, which is tasked with independently controlling the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) criteria, which are a prerequisite for halal certification.”
On this occasion, Muslich also mentioned that the halal certification process that Coway has taken is a very good step in fulfilling the mandatory halal certification regulations that the Government has set in Act No. 6 of 2023. Water purifier products are included in the category of consumer goods that are required to have halal certification in October 2026.
Head of Division Marketing & Sales Coway Indonesia, Kim Chan Ho, said that the Indonesian market is a priority for Coway, so his party continues to strive to provide clean drinking water to consumers. This is also the reason Coway is the first water purifier company from Korea to receive a halal certificate.
This commitment is also demonstrated by Coway with its open attitude towards the Indonesian government’s program targeting 100% access to clean drinking water and 15% access to safe drinking water. President Director of Coway Indonesia, Tony Cho, said, “As a business actor in the water purification sector for more than 30 years, Coway is wide open to collaboration opportunities with the government and State-Owned Enterprises to contribute to realizing access to safe drinking water that can be enjoyed by all levels of society, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2023.”
After obtaining a halal certificate, a number of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities have also been carried out. One of them is donating water purifier products and air purifiers for free to seven mosques in Jabodetabek and plans to target more mosques. This initiative is Coway’s initial step to increase public trust in water purifier products, especially among the Muslim community, as well as to provide access to pure and quality drinking water.
In this event, Coway also presented an interesting discussion related to water purity, which was explored from various perspectives. Jane Oibanitehenia Gulo, Coway Water Quality Laboratory Manager, in her discussion with Esha Mahendra, a Halal Influencer, and Mangmoel, as an artist.
