Curry House CoCo Ichibanya is now officially halal-certified by BPJPH, affirming its commitment to serving authentic Japanese curry in a halal manner in Indonesia. Now, culinary enthusiasts can enjoy delicious curry without hesitation, as every ingredient and process has been rigorously tested to meet strict halal standards, ensuring the comfort of Muslim customers.
Curry House CoCo Ichibanya Indonesia, owned by PT Abadi Tunggal Lestari, affirms its position as a halal restaurant serving authentic Japanese curry that not only tantalizes the taste buds but also complies with Indonesian food safety and halal standards. This commitment is now officially confirmed through the receipt of a halal certificate from BPJPH, with number ID 31410029316660925, issued on September 30, 2025.
The certificate presentation ceremony took place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Curry House CoCo Ichibanya outlet in Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. This move further strengthens CoCo Ichibanya’s position as a Japanese culinary choice for those seeking a halal Japanese curry restaurant with authentic flavors.
In his remarks, Hendra Utama, a representative of LPPOM Management, expressed his appreciation for the management’s serious efforts. “We congratulate Curry House CoCo Ichibanya Restaurant on obtaining a halal certificate. Thank you for choosing LPPOM as your halal inspection agency,” said Hendra. He explained that the process of becoming a halal restaurant requires high levels of preparation and discipline, from initial preparation to the ongoing implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH).
The certification process begins internally at the company. Restaurant representatives undergo training and will eventually be appointed as halal supervisors. The company will then form a halal management team comprising representatives from purchasing, quality control/quality assurance, operations, warehouse, and production areas. This team is required to conduct regular internal training at least once a year to ensure all employees understand the latest halal standards and applicable regulations.
Next, the team will develop a Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) manual as the main guideline for daily operations. This document covers five important aspects: commitment and responsibility, raw materials, halal production processes, halal products, and monitoring and evaluation. “This SJPH manual is the core operational guideline. It’s not just a document, but a guide to ensure long-term compliance,” explained Hendra.
Hendra added that there are two important factors in guaranteeing halal products: facilities that are free from impurities and ingredients, and formulas that consistently meet halal requirements. “Sometimes businesses need more time because they have to ensure that ingredients and formulas comply with halal standards. However, this is part of the effort to maintain consumer trust,” he said.
He also emphasized that obtaining BPJPH certification provides added value for businesses. “It’s not enough to simply say ‘no pork, no lard.’ There must be a guarantee from a third party,” Hendra said.
Feina Limsa, owner of Curry House CoCo Ichibanya Indonesia, emphasized the brand’s commitment to meeting the needs of Indonesia’s majority Muslim consumers. “We want to provide comfort for Muslim customers. We are also developing a menu with Indonesian flavors,” explained Feina.
Since its launch in December 2013, CoCo Ichibanya has had 12 outlets in Jakarta and its surrounding areas, and plans to expand its reach to other cities. The biggest challenge she faces is maintaining the authentic taste of Japanese curry while ensuring all ingredients are halal. “Transforming the curry to be halal yet authentic is not easy. We had to reformulate several ingredients, including replacing mirin and soy sauce with halal versions,” she added.
Echoing this, Muhammad Seiichi Ito from Business Development at CoCo Ichibanya emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a hassle-free dining experience. “We want all Indonesians, especially Muslims, to be able to enjoy our curry with peace of mind. We carry out the certification process diligently, from the raw materials to the cooking process,” he said. With halal certification from BPJPH, Curry House CoCo Ichibanya has further established itself as a top choice for those seeking a quality halal Japanese curry restaurant. This achievement demonstrates that authentic deliciousness can coexist with adherence to halal standards, providing peace of mind and comfort with every meal. (YN)
