Halal certification is a step to increase the added value of a product. This is realized by the Bali regional government so that together with LPPOM MUI, they facilitate free halal certification for MSEs in tourist areas.
The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs, and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM MUI), together with the Head of the Industry and Trade Service, Bangli Regency, Bali, facilitated free halal certification for 200 micro and small businesses (MSEs) in Bangli Regency, Bali. The ceremonial handover of halal certificates was carried out on March 5, 2024, at the Wantilan Selatan Building, Penglipuran Village, Bali.
The President Director of LPPOM MUI, Muti Arintawati, expressed her appreciation for the concern of the regional Government in Bali, especially the Industry and Trade Service, Bangli Regency, towards MSEs. According to her, halal certification has two functions.
“First, halal certification is a form of business actors’ compliance with applicable regulations. As is well known, the Government has enforced mandatory halal certification for all products circulating in Indonesia. This is a must for business actors if their products want to be traded in Indonesia,” explained Muti Arintawati.
Second, with halal certification, the production process of a business will be more systematic and easy to trace. This is because certification requires a halal management team to be responsible for ensuring the halalness of the product, starting from raw materials and production facilities until the product reaches the hands of consumers.
On this occasion, the Head of the Industry and Trade Service, Bangli Regency, I Wayan Gunawan, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Industry and Trade Service of Bangli Regency and LPPOM MUI. “We are happy today because business actors in Bangli Regency have made a leap in their business. Not just fulfilling regulations, halal certification is an effort to provide added value to a product. This is ultimately expected to be able to improve the economy of the people in Bangli Regency,” he said. This activity is a pre-event for the LPPOM MUI 1445 H Syawal Festival program. This program is a form of LPPOM MUI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which has been routinely implemented for the past three years through technical guidance and free halal certification facilitation or subsidies for MSMEs. This year, the free halal certification facilitation through the Syawal Festival program will be held again with the theme “Accelerating the Local Community Economy through Halal Tourism” targeting micro-entrepreneurs in favorite tourist destinations to support economic growth through halal tourism. This is a concrete effort by LPPOM MUI to help the Government succeed in implementing regulations and a form of LPPOM MUI’s concern for micro-entrepreneurs in terms of regulatory compliance and providing added value to their products.
