To increase the importance of choosing halal and thayyib products, LPPOM provides education related to the BPJPH halal certification process for the general public and mosque congregations. This step is expected to encourage a broader understanding of the importance of halal products so that a sense of security and comfort is created for Muslim consumers in Indonesia.
The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics (LPPOM) emphasizes the importance of choosing halal and thayyib food and beverage products for a Muslim. This is not only a form of compliance with Islamic law but also to ensure that daily consumption is good and healthy for the body.
By choosing halal and thayyib products, a Muslim also maintains health. Therefore, consumers need to pay attention to halal certificates as a guarantee that the product has gone through a process that is in accordance with halal and safety standards.
The Director of Strategy and Operations of LPPOM, Sumunar Jati, conveyed this in a series of Syiar Ramadhan 1446 H Productive Waqf Movement, Halal Literacy and Ramadhan Bazaar themed “Halal Thayyib According to Islam and Halal Certificates as a Legal Basis” held by the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) in collaboration with the MUI Waqf Institution (LW MUI), and the Istiqlal Mosque Management on March 14, 2025 at the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta.
He also emphasized that with the rapid growth of the Muslim population worldwide today, the demand for halal-certified products is also increasing. This is not just a trend but a necessity. This phenomenon encourages producers to pay more attention to halal certification as a global standard.
“Halal certification is now a global necessity, not only in Muslim-majority countries. Many people, including non-Muslims, realize the importance of this certification because it guarantees the quality, cleanliness, and safety of products. With a halal certificate, consumers feel calmer in choosing products that are consumed daily,” said Jati.
He also explained that the obligation for halal certification by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has been in effect since October 17, 2019. In the first stage, this regulation covers food products, beverages, slaughtering results, and services. This policy also marks the beginning of the mandatory halal era in Indonesia as an implementation of Act No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH).
Halal certification is present as a legal basis to ensure that a product meets halal and thayyib standards. In many countries, including Indonesia, halal certificates are issued by authorized institutions such as BPJPH. This regulation provides legal certainty for producers and consumers and encourages the industry to be more transparent in its production process.
In this case, LPPOM also encourages government programs, of course, by assisting every food and beverage business actor in carrying out the halal certification process in order to realize the certainty of the availability of halal products for the community and to realize a sense of security and comfort for Muslim consumers in Indonesia and the world.
LPPOM makes various efforts to encourage the realization of mandatory halal for all product categories according to government direction. This is done by educating business actors on a number of programs to help them carry out halal certification quickly and easily, including providing free halal certification facilities.
LPPOM opens a discussion space for every business actor whose products have not yet been halal certified through the Customer Care service at Call Center 14056 or WhatsApp 0811-1148-696. In addition, business actors can also explore the flow and process of halal certification by attending the Introduction to Halal Certification (PSH) class, which is held routinely every 2nd and 4th week of each month https://halalmui.org/pengenalan-sertifikasi-halal/. So, for LPPOM Friends who have food and beverage products that do not yet have halal certification, let’s immediately register your products and choose LPH LPPOM to carry out halal inspections to meet the regulations set by the government. You can also check the list of halal-certified beauty products through the website www.halalmui.org, the Halal MUI application that can be downloaded on Playstore, and the BPJPH website https://bpjph.halal.go.id/.
