  • 7 Latest Halal Certification Requirements That Businesses Must Know

Halal certification requirements are official provisions that businesses must meet to ensure their products are declared halal in accordance with government regulations. Starting October 17, 2024, mandatory halal certification regulations apply to various product categories, particularly food, beverages, and processed products. Understanding these requirements from the outset will simplify the registration process and avoid obstacles during audits.

What is Halal Certification?

Halal certification is a verification process carried out by an official institution to ensure that products, raw materials, and production processes are free from haram (forbidden) or impure elements. This certificate is issued by BPJPH (Halal Product Assurance Agency) with technical inspection by LPPOM (formerly LPPOM MUI) or other official LPH.

Halal certification can be achieved through the following channels:

  • Self-Declaration (specifically for MSMEs with clearly certified halal raw materials)
  • Regular Halal Certification (for products requiring more complex audits and testing)
