BPOM’s recognition of LPPOM MUI Laboratory as a Maturity Level 4 External Laboratory confirms its capacity as a regulatory-grade laboratory trusted by the state. This recognition strengthens its role in the national oversight system and regulatory decision-making.
The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) of LPPOM MUI Laboratory, as a Maturity Level 4 External Laboratory, marks the highest achievement in the laboratory’s quality system maturity. This recognition confirms the reliability of laboratory governance, data integrity, test traceability, and test results, all suitable for regulatory decision-making (regulatory-grade).
For BPOM, this external laboratory recognition program represents an important milestone in strengthening the national oversight system. This official recognition was achieved through a rigorous assessment based on the Guidelines for Recognition of External Laboratories for Testing Drugs and Drug Ingredients (BPOM Decree No. 424 of 2025), which adopts the ALCOA+ (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate, Complete, Consistent, Enduring, Available) principles in accordance with WHO TRS 1033:2021 – WHO Guideline on Data Integrity, Annex 4, and WHO TRS 1052:2024 – Good Practices for Pharmaceutical Quality Control Laboratories.
The LPPOM MUI Laboratory has officially received recognition as a BPOM External Laboratory with Maturity Level 4. This status represents the highest level in the quality management system and technical testing of pharmaceutical samples, specifically for testing ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG) in oral liquid preparations.
The award was presented directly by the Head of BPOM RI, Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., to the President Director of LPPOM, Muti Arintawati, during an official event held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the 8th Floor of the Red and White Building, BPOM, Central Jakarta. This event clearly demonstrates the state’s trust in the LPPOM MUI Laboratory’s scientific capacity, testing techniques, and quality systems.
Maturity Level 4 recognition indicates that the laboratory’s management system has reached a high level of maturity. This means that all processes—from governance and operational procedures to quality control and the reliability of test results—have been running stably, integrated, and well documented. In the context of drug and food supervision, this achievement is a crucial element in building a strong and sustainable consumer protection system.
LPPOM President Director, Muti Arintawati, emphasized that this achievement is not only a source of pride for the institution but also a significant trust that must be upheld. This recognition demonstrates that the system LPPOM has built has reached a level of maturity that is ready to support the national supervision system.
“For LPPOM, this award represents a long-term commitment to maintaining integrity, professionalism, and consistent quality in every testing process. Public trust, she believes, can only be built through a robust system, accurate data, and consistent adherence to standards,” said Muti Arintawati.
This recognition from the BPOM also strengthens the LPPOM MUI Laboratory’s strategic position within the national testing ecosystem. Previously, the laboratory was a member of the Indonesian Cosmetic Laboratory Network (JLKI) 2025–2029, initiated by the BPOM. This network provides a collaborative space between the government, industry, academia, and various testing laboratories throughout Indonesia.
Within this network, the LPPOM MUI Laboratory stands out as a strategic element, ready to contribute significantly to the development of a safe, halal, and credible national cosmetics industry. Its role extends beyond testing to strengthening cross-sector collaboration and building stronger industry-quality governance.
The LPPOM MUI Laboratory’s contribution is also evident in its involvement in the National Standardization Agency (BSN)’s Cosmetics Technical Committee 71-07, which formulates the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for cosmetic testing methods. This involvement demonstrates that LPPOM not only implements standards but also actively shapes national standards that serve as references for industry and regulators across Indonesia.
With this position, the LPPOM MUI Laboratory functions not only as a technical testing unit but also as a strategic actor in the development of the national quality system. This role emphasizes the laboratory’s crucial position in the industrial, regulatory, and consumer protection ecosystems.
In the future, the LPPOM MUI Laboratory is committed to strengthening institutional capacity, human resource competency, and laboratory service innovation to address industry challenges, regulations, and public needs. Through this BPOM recognition, LPPOM MUI affirms its role as part of the national solution in building a safe, high-quality, and reliable product assurance system. (YN)
