LPPOM underwent a massive transformation in order to face the enactment of Act No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (JPH), which requires halal certification for all products circulating in Indonesia. This transformation applies to all aspects, from regulations, digitalization, and organizational structure to business models.
Muti Arintawati, the President Director of LPPOM who served for the 2020-2025 period, oversaw the transformation phase, which began in 2018. Thanks to her agile leadership, Muti became one of 21 female leaders who successfully received the Most Extraordinary Women Business Leaders 2024 award from SWA Media, which was given on July 15, 2024, at the Shangri La Hotel, Jakarta.
Kartika D. Antono, Managing Director of PT Multistrada Agro International, who acted as one of the judges, gave high appreciation to the winners of The Most Extraordinary Women Business Leaders 2024 award. She said that the entire judging process was very strict and detailed.
“Each candidate has an interesting advantage, how they can combine company interests with personal achievement. From there we learn that creative thinking and strategy are very constructive in achieving company success. Another thing related to sustainability is all candidates have a focus on sustainability, both for the environment and human resources,” explained Kartika.
Amidst increasingly tight competition and regulatory changes, Muti and her entire team have led LPPOM through difficult times with innovative business growth strategies and an inclusive leadership approach. Various challenges, both from within and outside the organization, have faced LPPOM with the need to improve service quality and operational efficiency, as well as adjust the organizational structure to remain competitive.
“In fact, this award is not for me personally, but for all LPPOM people. This institution would not have been able to get to where it is today if strong people did not support it. When working, LPPOM personnel always apply the IHSAN values, namely Integrity, Reliability, Synergy, Enthusiasm for Innovation, and Prioritizing Customers,” said Muti.
In facing regulatory challenges, which open up competition for more than 70 Halal Inspection Body (LPH), Muti strives to develop a more adaptive and proactive business model, increase operational efficiency, and expand service coverage. One of the results that can be seen is the consistent increase in the number of clients from 2020 to 2023 with faster service times without reducing quality. Sihalal data, as of May 13, 2024, also shows LPPOM as the fastest LPH, namely an average completion of inspections of 7 working days.
Muti also ensures that LPPOM is able to respond to market changes quickly and effectively through inclusive leadership, which means opening up communication space and empowering every team member to contribute. “In this way, we build a strong and compact team. The results of this inclusive and strategic leadership approach are very significant. LPPOM has succeeded in increasing operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and competitiveness in providing halal certification services.
LPPOM, she continued, has also utilized digital technology optimally during this transformation process. Since 2012, LPPOM has encouraged digitalization through the Cerol-23000 online certification system, which helps support efficiency and maintain the confidentiality of the halal certification process. This makes it very easy for LPPOM and companies to collect audit data that was previously done manually. This step is also the reason LPPOM was able to get through the crisis during the COVID-19 Pandemic. “The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to adapt quickly to the halal certification process. By implementing digital technology, we ensure that services remain optimal even in the midst of major challenges,” said Muti.
In addition, Muti also strives to produce leaders from within by encouraging continuous training and effective job rotation. Opportunities for employees to learn and develop are wide open. The party is optimistic that LPPOM has a reserve of leaders who are ready to take over greater responsibilities in the future.
Outside of business developments, LPPOM cares about Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through the Syawal Festival program, which since 2021 has reached more than 7,000 business actors to facilitate halal certification and coaching. Some business actors receive free halal certification. All of this achievement information is the reason for companies to choose LPPOM as the LPH of choice.
