Together with IPB University and IQI (Indonesia Quality Institution), LPH LPPOM (The Halal Inspection Body of The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics) explained the regulations related to the BPJPH halal certification process to 150 professionals in the food and beverage sector and students. This is a form of support for improving the mandatory halal regulations that are increasingly developing in Indonesia.
The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics (LPPOM) explains the mandatory halal certification regulations for food and beverage business actors in Indonesia. This regulation is essential to fulfil the requirements for business actors who want to trade products in Indonesia, where all products that enter, circulate, and are traded must be halal certified, in accordance with Article 160 of Government Regulation (PP) No. 42 of 2024.
The Corporate Secretary Manager of LPPOM, Raafqi Ranasasmita, conveyed this in a series of 2025 National Professional Seminars with the theme “The Role of Laboratory Management Systems on the Halal Certification Process” held by LPPOM in collaboration with IPB University and IQI (Indonesia Quality Institution) on February 15, 2025 at the Zeta Building, IPB University Vocational School, Bogor.
He explained that the obligation for halal-certified products by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has been in effect since October 17, 2019. In the first stage, this obligation was applied to food and beverage products and slaughtering results and services. This also marks the beginning of the era of mandatory halal in Indonesia as an implementation of Act No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH).
In the second stage, the obligation to be halal certified will begin to be enforced for cosmetic products, chemicals, genetic engineering, traditional medicines, supplements, and consumer goods (including packaging that will end their phase-out period on October 17, 2026. This is continued by the obligation to be halal for over-the-counter drugs that expire in 2029.
“Finally, 2034 is the last deadline for the obligation to have halal certification for drugs, namely for the group of hard drug products (except psychotropics) and medical devices. The scope of the obligation to have halal certification includes services related to drugs, such as maklon services, logistics, and retailers (sales),” said Raafqi.
