LPPOM MUI is making various efforts to help facilitate business actors in fulfilling the mandatory halal certification regulations that the Government is planning. This is also a form of LPPOM MUI’s concern for MSME actors.
The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM MUI) of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) handed over halal certificates to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and among them Slaughterhouses (RPH). The handover of halal certificates was carried out on January 24, 2024, at the Bumi Senyiur Hotel, Samarinda City, East Kalimantan.
According to tribunnews.com, according to the Chairman of MUI East Kalimantan, K.H. Muhammad Rasyid, this is a halal certification program; this is MUI’s commitment to maintaining the halalness of food consumed by the public through LPPOM MUI. “So this old program has been running and has become a community need, and the management is ultimately participating jointly. This can run straight and increase, and our collaboration can synergize with those who have the potential to reduce certification costs,” said Kiai Rasyid.
The Director of LPPOM MUI East Kalimantan, drh. H. Sumarsongko also added that 10 business actors were given symbolic representation. Several categories in the assessment, namely high risk, middle risk and low risk. For example, businesses that are at risk, such as food, raw materials, processes, and the environment, are very much considered.
“In East Kalimantan, it only goes up to the Halal Decree from the MUI, the inspection process is brought to the Fatwa Commission from our side and then submitted to the central Government. Like in 2023, LPPOM MUI has carried out around 300 halal inspections in East Kalimantan. Like processed meat, we see the process, then for the slaughterhouse, what water is used and is the environment clean or not,” explained Sumarsongko.
LPPOM MUI appealed to the public who had not taken care of halal certification and asked them to take care immediately. Especially for those who use their funds, there are also categories of large, medium and small businesses. Later, an assessor will provide a program to charge fees through cooperation with a third party to reduce certification costs.
“It could be free to manage halal certification, with the permission of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) and seeing the Business License Number (NIB) and the type of business. Halal certification is easy, halal ingredients, thayyib process, God willing, it can be done. You can search the internet to see whether the ingredients used are halal or ask us if you have family or friends who want to take care of it. Just encourage them to go to LPPOM MUI, and later, we will conduct an inspection,” explained Sumarsongko.
The price determination from the third party in question, namely the East Kalimantan Regional Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KDEKS), which the East Kalimantan Provincial Government drives, emphasized that it supports the halal certification program. This was emphasized by the Head of the Economic Bureau of the East Kalimantan Provincial Secretariat, Iwan Darmawan, who represented the leadership in the handover of this halal certification.
“On behalf of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government, we would like to express our gratitude regarding this halal certification process, talking about this halalness, so that peace and a sense of security can be created for the community, because indeed the majority of our population is Muslim, of course it is automatically needed,” said Iwan.
The East Kalimantan Provincial Government is also pushing for this halal certification to be comprehensive so that the target in 2024 can be achieved so that the community, especially Muslims, no longer worry about products in circulation, especially food products. Cooperation with the Government, associations and local governments can also accelerate the October 2024 target from the Central Government to obtain halal certification immediately.
Meanwhile, the Owner of Frozento, Teddy, who now has 4 branches in two cities in East Kalimantan, stated that it is essential to have a halal certificate. He admitted that the administration was straightforward, transparent and accountable by LPPOM MUI East Kalimantan, so his restaurant has now received halal certification.
“Consistency must be maintained to be able to obtain this halal certification, and it must be realized that as a country with the largest Muslim population, of course the people in any province will definitely see whether the restaurant has a halal certificate or not.” Said Teddy.
According to Teddy, it is essential that this can be fulfilled because visitors from other cities or provinces do not hesitate to visit restaurants, cafes, or the like in Samarinda City. The party realizes that the majority of those who go to his place are Muslims, so it is essential to maintain the quality of the materials used are good. This proves that the opportunities for MSMEs to obtain halal certification facilities are still wide open. Of course, it is not impossible for business actors who have just registered to have halal certification through various means. One of them is through the regular route with facilitation from the Government or other assistance.
