LPPOM MUI Gaet 18.701 Perusahaan Tahun 2023

LPPOM MUI pays close attention to the quality of its halal certification services. It is no wonder that achievements increase every year. During 2023, LPPOM MUI has attracted 18,701 companies, an increase from the previous year (2022) of 11,686 companies.

As of January 6, 2024, the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama (LPPOM MUI) has been advancing the halal industry in Indonesia for 35 years. Since its inception, LPPOM MUI has developed very well, even though it started everything from scratch with minimal independent facilities. Services are also continuously improved to encourage the mandatory halal program initiated by the government. Director of LPPOM MUI, Muti Arintawati, conveyed this at the Media Gathering event held on January 18, 2024, at the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) Building, Jakarta.

As is well known, the government has implemented mandatory halal certification for all products circulating in Indonesia. This is by Act No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (UU JPH) and its derivatives. From this regulation, several product categories are divided along with their stages. The closest product category that requires halal certification is the food and beverage category, precisely on October 17, 2024, halal certification will be mandatory. In relation to this, LPPOM MUI data (December 2023) states that 31,754 companies with 1,063,851 products already have halal certificates.

This large number proves that LPPOM MUI has performed its duties and functions as a Halal Inspection Body (LPH) very well. Various services continue to be improved until now, and they can compete globally. This is proven by the number of companies that are clients of LPPOM MUI, which continues to increase yearly. In 2023, LPPOM MUI attracted 18,701 companies, which increased from the previous year (2022) by 11,686.

“Many people do not yet realize that the obligation for halal certification does not stop at the final food and beverage products. All products and services that are closely related to the final food and beverage products must also be halal certified. Some services related to halal certification of food and beverages are slaughtering services, logistics services, and packaging services,” said Muti Arintawati.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, the results of the conditions of RPH/TPH/Related Livestock Function Services (RPH/TPH/Dinas) that are still active show that the number of RPH/TPH/Dinas in Indonesia is 1,690 spread across 34 provinces. Meanwhile, data from LPPOM MUI states that only 900 Animal/Poultry Slaughterhouses (RPH/U) have been certified halal through LPH LPPOM MUI. 49 companies have halal-certified logistics services, including distribution services and storage services. Meanwhile, 10 companies provide packaging services.

Other products that must be halal-certified are raw materials, food additives, and auxiliary materials for food and beverage products. One example of a food additive is a flavour, which provides an attractive taste and aroma. “This product is included in the chemical product category, but because it is one of the ingredients needed in making food and beverage products, the flavour is a product that must be halal-certified,” explained Muti Arintawati.

Despite many challenges, her party is optimistic that the government’s mandatory halal target can be realized with good stakeholder cooperation. LPPOM MUI continues to make various efforts to improve services and programs to encourage the realization of Indonesia’s ideals as the centre of the world’s halal industry and maintain the quality of halal product certification.
