Even 33 years of LPPOM MUI is involved in the world of halal certification. During that time, LPPOM MUI continued to make improvements, adaptations and innovations. This is none other than to make it easier for business actors to carry out the halal certification process.
Referring to Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee (JPH Law), LPPOM MUI is a Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) whose role is to carry out halal inspection and testing of products to be certified halal. The results of the examination by the halal auditor of LPPOM MUI are then reported to the MUI Fatwa Commission for halal provisions to be issued.
In carrying out its duties, LPPOM MUI has three important elements, namely auditors, laboratories that have been accredited, and an online service system, namely CEROL-SS-23000. LPPOM MUI continues to improve, among others by improving services in various fields, according to applicable standards.
The establishment of LPPOM MUI was based on a mandate from the Government/state that the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) played an active role in relieving lard cases in Indonesia in 1988. LPPOM MUI was established on January 6, 1989 to conduct halal inspection and certification.
LPPOM MUI continues to serve the people in conducting halal inspection of products in order to reassure people from consuming products that are not halal. On the other hand, LPPOM MUI also designed a system and standards so that the company can guarantee the halalness of its products, including the assessment criteria applied in the implementation of the audit. The standard was launched under the name Halal Assurance System (SJH) or Halal Assurance System (HAS 23000) in 2012. Currently, the standard is a reference for halal certification bodies of various countries in the world.
This standard is constantly being improved. Until September 8, 2021, LPPOM MUI launched the thematic HAS 23000 in response to the development of MUI halal fatwas, the development of science and technology as well as industrial demands and findings at the time of the audit.
The credibility of LPPOM MUI to become the First and Trusted Halal Certification Body, both at the national and international levels, is evidenced by the accreditation of SNI ISO / IEC 17065: 2012 from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).
"The submission of this certificate makes LPPOM MUI a pioneer and halal certification body in the world that is the first to get an ISO certificate," said The President Director of LPPOM MUI, Ir. Muti Arintawati, M.Si.
Not stopping there, on May 7, 2019, LPPOM MUI officially pocketed the KAN certificate with the addition of the scope of slaughterhouses (RPH) and the scope of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) scheme S.2055-2.2016. Since the issuance of the KAN certificate, LPPOM MUI has the right to use the accreditation symbol or accreditation statement by KAN within the scope of the RPH and in accordance with the UAE standard scheme.
LPPOM MUI services are increasingly complete with the presence of the LPPOM MUI laboratory. On November 5, 2020, this laboratory successfully obtained an SNI ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 accreditation certificate (ISO / IEC 17025: 2017). The testing services provided include identification of pig-specific proteins, identification of species DNA, measurement of solvent levels, water translucent power in ink and cosmetic products, skin identification in samak leather products, and analysis of SNI fulfillment in food products.
In 2012, LPPOM MUI penetrated into digitalization. Precisely on May 24, 2012, LPPOM MUI launched an online certification system or called CEROL-SS23000. This system is intended to provide halal certification registration services that are effective, efficient and accountable and are very helpful for business actors, both companies and MSMEs. And proven, CEROL-SS23000 became the solution to the halal certification process when the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic hit. With this system, LPPOM MUI is still able to operate and serve business actors well.Based on CEROL-SS2300 data, from 2015 to 2021, LPPOM MUI has carried out halal certification to 19,517 companies, with 44,737 halal certificates, and 1,292,392 halal products.
Also during the COVID-19 pandemic, LPPOM MUI carried out a Modified on-Site Audit (MoSA), which is a modification of the process of comparing audit evidence with 11 criteria of the Halal Assurance System (SJH). This is in line with the letter issued by KAN No. 004/KAN/04/2020 regarding Special KAN Policy for Certification Bodies, Verification Bodies and Validation Bodies related to Anticipating the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Certification, Verification and Validation Process.
This shows the readiness of LPPOM MUI to continue to adapt to all existing situations, including its relation to regulations. On July 1, 2021, LPPOM MUI stipulated an increase in the validity period of the halal provisions from the original 2 (two) years to 4 (four) years. The validity period of the halal certificate is stated in article 42 of the JPH Law, which is "the halal certificate is valid for four years since it was issued by BPJPH, unless there is a change in the composition of the material".
In addition to substantial halal in halal certification services, LPPOM MUI also carries out various socialization and education programs for the public, both offline and online through LPPOM MUI digital media channels. In addition, as a form of corporate responsibility, LPPOM MUI also organizes the Syawal Festival 1443H / 2021 program.
"This is a form of LPPOM MUI's commitment to continue to support the government in increasing the number of indonesian halal product production, which is expected to compete in the global arena in the future," explained Muti.
In this program, LPPOM MUI provides halal certification facilities to a number of MSE actors from 34 provinces in Indonesia. A total of 3,166 MSE actors have registered their businesses in this program, 644 of whom have passed the facilitation of halal certification. In addition, in this program, LPH LPPOM MUI also provides technical guidance to 1,811 MSE actors, including the introduction of halal certification to guidance in using the CEROL-SS23000 online halal certification system.
Of course, all the achievements of LPPOM MUI for 33 years are never enough to answer all the demands of halal certification. However, with all the existing resources, LPPOM MUI will continue to strive to present various innovations, in order to encourage Indonesia to become the world's halal center. (YN)
