Kenyal, Cerah, dan Halal: Gali Manfaat Asam Hialuronat dalam Skincare Halal Modern

In the era of halal skincare, Hyaluronic Acid is gaining popularity for its ability to moisturize the skin safely. Consumers now want effective results that align with halal principles, making this ingredient a top choice in modern skincare. However, can a Muslim use Hyaluronic Acid? And what is the BPJPH halal certification process for Hyaluronic Acid?

Imagine looking in the mirror one morning and seeing skin that looks moisturized, supple, and radiant without much effort. No annoying fine lines, no dryness that makes makeup difficult to apply. Or imagine a body that remains supple and comfortable to move with, even as we age.

Many people desire these conditions, and what’s interesting is that they don’t just depend on expensive products or intensive treatments. There’s one compound that’s quietly working hard for our bodies: Hyaluronic Acid.

According to Hendra Utama, a Senior Auditor at LPPOM, hyaluronic acid (HA) is actually not a foreign substance to the human body. “Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body. It is distributed in the skin, eyes, joints, and even nerve tissue, and its function is vital in maintaining moisture and protecting body tissues,” he explained.

However, as we age, the body produces less hyaluronic acid. This causes skin to appear drier, fine lines to appear, and joints to feel less flexible. Therefore, many people are turning to hyaluronic acid-based products for both health and beauty.

If skin is likened to a sponge, hyaluronic acid is the water that keeps it moist and supple. In the beauty world, hyaluronic acid is dubbed a super moisturizer for its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. “Of all the ingredients used in modern skincare, hyaluronic acid is one of the most effective in restoring skin hydration,” said Hendra.

It’s no wonder it’s a key ingredient in serums, moisturizers, night creams, and sheet masks. Once applied to the skin, the hydrating effect of hyaluronic acid can make the face appear plumper and glow, and feel softer.

However, the benefits of hyaluronic acid go beyond beauty. In the medical world, hyaluronic acid plays a significant role in lubricating joints, treating dry eyes with specialized eye drops, and even accelerating the healing of post-surgery or burn wounds. This compound truly provides benefits from head to toe, supporting quality of life at all ages.

Amid its immense popularity, there is a critical aspect that Muslim consumers should not overlook: the halal status of products containing hyaluronic acid. For some, skincare is simply a matter of aesthetics. However, for Muslim women, skincare is closely related to faith and inner peace.

“Not all hyaluronic acid is automatically halal. The source of the raw materials and the entire production process must be clear and meet standards,” Hendra emphasized. Therefore, choosing halal skincare is not just about following trends, but ensuring that what we apply to our skin aligns with our values and principles. This includes compliance with the BPJPH’s halal certification regulations.

Indonesia has taken a significant step by mandating halal certification for cosmetic products by October 17, 2026. This means that all skincare products, including those containing Hyaluronic Acid, must have halal accreditation from the BPJPH before they can be marketed.

“Manufacturers shouldn’t wait until the deadline arrives. Applying for halal certification early is safer, more efficient, and opens up significant opportunities to penetrate the global market,” he said.

For consumers, simple steps include checking the BPOM distribution permit, ensuring the presence of a halal logo/BPJPH halal certificate, and avoiding claims like “natural” or “organic,” which are often misinterpreted as “halal.” “Natural is good, organic is good, but halal is certain. And that certainty can only be achieved through certification,” added Hendra.

Hyaluronic acid has been proven to help millions of people maintain healthy skin and bodies. However, for halal skincare users, these benefits must be aligned with halal values. Fortunately, more and more manufacturers are beginning to understand the importance of providing products that are not only effective but also safe and halal.

To support cosmetics manufacturers, LPPOM, as the Halal Inspection Body (LPH), is actively innovating by providing a range of services to facilitate business owners in the halal product inspection process. One such program, the Halal On 30 program, accessible at bit.ly/HalalOn30, provides practical explanations of the halal certification process so business owners can understand it without spending a lot of time.

Ultimately, true beauty radiates not only from hydrated, radiant skin but also from a heart at peace with the belief that every product used is not only beneficial but also brings blessings. (HU/YN)
