  • Not Just About Numbers, LPH LPPOM Encourages Trusted and Integrity-Based Halal Certification
Bukan Sekadar Jumlah, LPH LPPOM Dorong Sertifikasi Halal yang Terpercaya dan Berintegritas

Ahead of the implementation of the whole halal certification obligation in October 2026, LPH LPPOM emphasized that Indonesia should not be satisfied with being a “local tiger” but must be ready to compete in the global market with a trusted, integrity-based, and efficient halal certification system without compromising on halalness itself.

The President Director of the Halal Inspection Body (LPH) LPPOM, Muti Arintawati, emphasized the importance of one major priority that must be pursued before the deadline of October 17, 2026. She conveyed this at the Kumparan Halal Forum 2025, which was held on May 27, 2025, at the Artotel Mangkuluhur Gatot Subroto Hotel, Jakarta. “The priority is how to help accelerate the achievement of the target. So that when the deadline runs out, business actors can meet it precisely on October 17, 2026. So, before that, we should encourage it,” said Muti in her interview session entitled The X Factor to Accelerate Your Halal Certification Process.

In Muti’s view, efforts to achieve the target are not just about meeting the quota. “So LPH LPPOM is ready to provide assistance, provide information. To be able to achieve that, of course we need (we are not only talking about local but also global), so we must also know what the halal requirements are for the destination country for export,” she said, emphasizing the importance of global orientation in strengthening Indonesian halal products.

This is in line with the grand vision of LPH LPPOM, which is that Indonesia will not only be a leader in the domestic market but also be able to compete in the international arena. “So that we are not only tigers in our own country, but we can really compete in the global arena,” said Muti.

However, she also reminded us that the accumulation of halal certificates is not the only indicator of success. More importantly, building trust from the public and the international market towards Indonesia’s halal certification system is essential.

“(In) 2026, we hope not only to pursue numbers, but also how we can grow trust, both public and global, towards Indonesia’s halal certification system. That is very important,” he said.

He reminded us that if this trust is not maintained, then even achieving high quantities will be in vain. “It is useless if we have a lot of certifications, but it turns out that the level of trust is low. Let’s maintain it together,” he added.

Integrity is the main value in maintaining this trust. Muti called on all stakeholders to make integrity the foundation of every halal certification process.

“And of course this is intended for all stakeholders, how we can carry out halal certification activities by prioritizing integrity. Then we can ensure that the process carried out becomes easier and faster, and (consequently) it (implies) it becomes cheaper,” he explained.

However, Muti emphasized that time and cost efficiency should not sacrifice the substance of halalness. “That does not mean we have to lower the quality of the halal product itself,” he said.

He closed his statement with one non-negotiable principle in the halal product assurance system. “Because halal is 100 percent, there should be no bargaining. There is no discussion about the halal substance. But the path to (fulfilling the requirements for) halal that we can compromise,” he concluded.

Muti’s statement appeals to all business actors, regulators, and supporting institutions and emphasizes Indonesia’s important role in the global halal industry. This is not only about being big in terms of numbers but also about being strong in terms of credibility and world trust.
